Terms of Service

Last updated: August 8, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using Speechable, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our service.

2. Description of Service

Speechable is a text-to-speech service that converts documents into natural-sounding audio. We provide tools to upload, process, and listen to your documents.

3. User Accounts

To use Speechable, you must create an account. You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • All activities that occur under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized use

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Upload content that infringes on intellectual property rights
  • Use the service for any illegal purpose
  • Attempt to circumvent any usage limits or restrictions
  • Share your account with others
  • Reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of our service

Additional restrictions apply to the speech synthesis features — see Text-to-Speech Model Terms below.

Text-to-Speech Model Terms

Speech synthesis in Speechable is powered by Supertonic-3, a machine-learning model licensed by Supertone Inc. under the BigScience Open RAIL-M License. Your use of the speech features is subject to that licence's use restrictions, which we are required to pass on to you and which form part of these Terms.

You agree not to use the speech synthesis features, or any audio generated with them:

  1. In any way that violates any applicable national, federal, state, local or international law or regulation;
  2. For the purpose of exploiting, harming, or attempting to exploit or harm minors in any way;
  3. To generate or disseminate verifiably false information or content with the purpose of harming others;
  4. To generate or disseminate personally identifiable information that can be used to harm an individual;
  5. To generate or disseminate content, or place it in any context, without expressly and intelligibly disclaiming that the content is machine generated;
  6. To defame, disparage or otherwise harass others;
  7. To impersonate or attempt to impersonate another person (for example, by voice cloning or “deepfakes”) without their consent;
  8. For fully automated decision-making that adversely affects an individual's legal rights, or creates or modifies a binding obligation;
  9. For any use intended to, or having the effect of, discriminating against or harming individuals or groups based on online or offline social behaviour, or known or predicted personal characteristics;
  10. To exploit vulnerabilities of a specific group based on age, or social, physical or mental characteristics, so as to materially distort a person's behaviour in a way likely to cause physical or psychological harm;
  11. For any use intended to, or having the effect of, discriminating against individuals or groups based on legally protected characteristics;
  12. To provide medical advice or interpret medical results;
  13. To generate or disseminate information for use in the administration of justice, law enforcement, immigration or asylum processes.

These restrictions apply to the model and to any derivative of it, and they survive any termination of your account. We may suspend or terminate access where we reasonably believe they have been breached.

Your audio is yours. The model licensor claims no rights in the output you generate. Subject to the restrictions above and the rest of these Terms, audio you create with Speechable is yours to use.

On-device mode. If you enable eco (on-device) mode, model files are downloaded to your browser so synthesis can run locally. Those files remain subject to the licence linked above, a copy of which is provided with them. A full list of the third-party components we use is available on our licences and notices page.

5. Content Ownership

You retain all rights to the documents you upload. By using our service, you grant us a limited license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the text-to-speech service. We do not claim ownership of your content.

6. Payment and Subscriptions

Some features require a paid subscription. By subscribing, you agree to pay the applicable fees. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled.

Refund policy: Only yearly subscriptions are eligible for a refund. Monthly subscriptions and credit pack purchases are non-refundable. If you cancel a yearly subscription, you will be refunded the remaining balance of your annual fee, minus the monthly rate for each month started since your subscription began. For example, if you cancel one month in, you receive the yearly fee minus one month at the monthly price.

Contact support to request a refund.

7. Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time.

8. Limitation of Liability

Speechable is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

9. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or through the service. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
